The biggest problem with trying to book a family holiday is that parents and kids usually want different things, writes guest reviewer Rachel Bridge. Kids want to go camping and spend hours going down water slides, while parents crave easy ways to feed them, proper washing facilities and somewhere to sit outside of an evening with a well-earned glass of wine.
Fortunately we found the answer relatively early on in our search. It’s Eurocamp and it has worked so well we have stuck with it for nearly 20 years, spanning two children from the age of six months to mid-teens. Eurocamp is all about good quality mobile homes on good quality sites, supported by a team of friendly couriers. And apart from the odd bit of missing equipment that was promptly replaced, it has never once let us down.
3 best things about Eurocamp holidays
It’s true that the amount we have spent during that time would probably have been enough to open our own Eurocamp parc, but the reason we have stayed with them is down to three things:
- Once you have checked in and got the key to your mobile home, it’s all very laid back – all the activities and facilities are there if you want them but there’s absolutely no pressure or obligation to get involved if you don’t want to
- You typically spend most of the day outside, often without even realising it, whether eating meals al fresco, cycling, swimming or just wandering around, making it a healthy holiday without you even trying
- Many of Eurocamp’s mobile homes come with lots of facilities including two shower rooms and toilets – very handy when holidaying with kids and/or grandparents. There are also safari tents on many sites for that glamping experience
So in no particular order, here are my top seven Eurocamp parcs. They are all in France, because for me that’s my other essential requirement for holidaying with kids – you have to be able to get there by car. Eurocamp has lots of parcs further afield in other countries and I’m sure they are also lovely but for my money you can’t beat the joy of just chucking everything into the car boot, strapping the kids in and putting your foot down.
Domaine de Drancourt
Eurocamp region
Picardy, Northern France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
Holiday makers often use this site as a stop-off enroute to the rest of France, but they are missing a treat as this is a brilliant destination in its own right, as well as being really easy to get to – just 90 minutes’ drive from Calais.
What’s so great about it?
- The little horses – you can book a horse ride onsite for even the smallest child. They simply hand you the reins of the horse with your child on top and off you go.
- Cycles and pedal cars for hire onsite
- Near to the historic town of St Valery sur Somme with its vintage steam train and creperies
Saint Avit Loisirs
Eurocamp region
Dordogne, Central France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
This a big lively park with a vast pool complex and lots of entertainment going on, with a whole programme of DJ dance parties and fitness sessions organised during the summer and well attended kids clubs. But there is still plenty of room to go and doze quietly under a tree too.
What’s so great about it?
- Vast pool complex, with a water slide especially for inflatable donuts
- Far enough south for properly good weather
- Near to the town of Le Bugue where you can go canoeing on the river

La Croix de Vieux Pont
Eurocamp region
Paris, Northern France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
This is one of Eurocamp’s most popular parcs and it’s not hard to see why. It’s less than three hours’ drive from Calais, it’s within walking distance of a proper French village with bars and restaurants, and it offers a full range of all-weather family entertainment, from kayaks to laser tag.
What’s so great about it?
- Several large lakes to swim in, fish in, boat on and sit beside
- Great water slides
- Several indoor options if it rains – laser tag, bowling and soft play centre

Domaine des Naiades
Eurocamp region
Riviera and Provence, Southern France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
A hidden South of France gem surrounded by trees which is impeccably positioned right on the Mediterranean coast. But as a keen swimmer the best thing about this parc is its Olympic-sized swimming pool – amazing.
What’s so great about it?
- You can catch a boat from nearby Port Grimaud and visit St Tropez for the day
- It’s walking distance to the beach
- That Olympic-sized swimming pool

Bel Campsite
Eurocamp region
Vendee, Central France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
Bel is a small quiet parc and is perfect for babies and toddlers because it is completely flat and has a gentle low stress pool area. It’s easy to walk out of the gates to the beach or into town and there’s a big supermarket on the doorstep too.
What’s so great about it?
- It’s very calm and relaxed
- There is a lovely purpose built softplay room for babies and toddlers.
- It’s right by a vast sandy beach and a lovely holiday town

Des Menhirs
Eurocamp region
Brittany, Northern France
What’s this Eurocamp like?
This is a small compact park but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with location. Situated down a residential street in Carnac, it is easy to walk to the sandy beach or into town for a meal. But it’s got a great atmosphere on site too, with pool parties and big screen football showing in the bar. We watched the Euro Championships here and the kids loved it. Another Eurocamp holiday park, Domaine des Ormes, is across the other side of Brittany and set in 400 acres of wooded parkland.
What’s so great about it?
- Properly good water slides
- Walking distance to lovely beach and holiday town
- Has an indoor pool for rainy days
